Masks & Peels Popularity
More and more people are making facial masks and peels a regular part of their skincare regimen. This is true both for women and men. I am thrilled especially because I prefer to hang out with people that look good and take care of themselves.
I'm not quite sure why masks and peels have become something quite a few people are doing these days. Probably it's because of all the emphasis on appearance. You know, the beauty and youthful look sort of thing. I think another facet to the increased use of masks and peels is the whole well-being movement. It seems we can thank the East for that. I know I do! I absolutely love a relaxation facial mask. In fact, I actually prefer it to a massage most of the time.
Something I Learned About Masks & Peels
When I first started getting masks and peels done for me by a professional, I was shocked that my face would break out. Sometimes it would look just terrible after my treatment. I thought it was just me. Finally, I worked up the courage to ask about it and learned that with many first-timers, this is quite normal. They told me that the masks and peels I was getting were designed to remove the bad oils and toxins from my skin. That's exactly what was happening. In time the breakouts stopped. So I guess most of the really bad gunk was gone.
Another thing I learned is that I didn't drink enough water. Almost all of the masks and peels specialists I've visited regardless of where they were located on the Globe pushed hydrating. They'd bring me water and tell me to drink lots of water. Simple enough, huh? I'd just never connected water with my facial beauty.
Still another thing I learned is not to be too rough or abrasive on the do-it-yourself masks and peels. There is nothing wrong with self application. Many of us are a bit too intense about it though. So, relax and enjoy the process. Use a bit less pressure in the application or you might learn the hard way (like I did) that you'll take layers off your skin that are not designed to be removed that way.
Timing is important, too. If you use certain masks and peels with a time limit, honor it. More is not always better. I've never done this but a friend of mine actually got second degree burns because they did not follow the directions and clearly written warning signs regarding how long to leave the product on.
Masks & Peels Work
Some of my friends poo poo the idea that masks and peels work. They take a cynical attitude and saw that they don't and that there is no scientific proof that they do. Well I don't know about that, all I do know is that they work for me! When I get a relaxation mask, I always feel relaxed. When I use masks and peels to reduce my pore size, my pores end up smaller. When I get one to rehydrate my face and neck, it feels moist but not greasy and lasts several days afterward.
The way I look at it is if you don't want to get one, don't. Pretty simple. But please do not come complaining about all the this and that about your face down the road because you didn't bother yourself to take care of it today.
